THE BIBLE – THE WORD OF GOD
The only way to truly begin to know what GOD is like is to know HIS Attributes through HIS Revelation of HIMSELF in the Bible, GOD’S Word to Mankind, and through HIS SON CHRIST JESUS who in –
HIS Person Represents GOD and in HIS Spirit Reveals GOD.
Without the Authority of the Bible and the Testimony of JESUS CHRIST any attempt to explain the Attributes of GOD would be to open ourselves up to Opinion, Conjecture, Supposition and Error.
None of the above would have any Foundation and they would probably all be incorrect when trying to understand a SPIRITUAL OMNIPOTENT BEING like GOD.
The Attributes of GOD, as Revealed in the Bible, are Crucial to Understanding GOD; who HE is, what HE does, and what HE is like.
One of GOD’S Primary Attributes is that of Creator of all things. Nothing that exist came into being on its own, and no process (such as evolution) created anything. As Creator, GOD made everything according to >> HIS Divine Plan << and HIS >> Grand Design << to Reveal and Reflect HIMSELF to HIS Creation and Revealed these things to Mankind through Revelations in Time Periods and Time Lines which are Designed as Covenants; Phases, Ages, Eventualities; Dispensations and/or Judgments.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Psa 24:1 <A Psalm of David.> The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Creation was Perfect but was defiled through Man’s sin of disobedience and subsequently altered from its perfect state as evidenced by the fall of Mankind from the Spiritual Realm into the World of darkness and sin. But even so, it still testifies to GOD’S power and genius.
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
The creation speaks of GOD’S attributes and there is no language or speech where its voice is not heard.
Psa 19:1 <To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.> The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Psa 19:2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
Psa 19:3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
In addition to being the Creator, GOD is Eternal, meaning HE had no beginning and HE will have no end. HIS Existence is one of Eternal, Immortality and Infinity without the cycle of duration (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17). Unlike man who changes from one day to the next, GOD is Immutable and unchanging which means He is absolutely reliable and trustworthy (Malachi 3:6; Numbers 23:19; Psalm 102:26-27).
GOD’S mind is incomprehensible to Mankind. HIS thoughts are not our thoughts and HIS ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:9). They are so much higher than ours as to make HIM unfathomable and incomprehensible to our finite minds. HE is unsearchable, and past finding out as far as understanding HIM completely (Isaiah 40:28; Psalm 145:3; Romans 11:33-34).
GOD is unique; HE is one GOD and there is no other (Isaiah 45:6), and HE alone is worthy of our Worship and Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:4). GOD is completely Sovereign over all of Life and all circumstances. HIS Plans and Purposes will stand and no one can stop HIM or say to HIM, “What are you doing?” (Job 9:12; Psalm 93:1; 95:3; Jeremiah 23:20). GOD is SPIRIT, meaning HE is invisible (John 1:18; 4:24).
GOD is revealed and expressed through the GODHEAD, DEITY or DIVINITY being equally present in the FATHER, the SON and the HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT. HE is not three (3) gods, but one GOD in three ASPECTS or MANIFESTATIONS, each the SAME in substance and equal in power and glory.
GOD is TRUTH, and HE can not lie so HE
Keeps HIS PROMISES and COVENANTS.
(Psalm 117:2; 1 Samuel 15:29).
GOD is JUST, GOOD, AND MERCIFUL. It is because of HIS MERCY that we are not lost and have to spend Eternity in hell paying for our sins. Through HIS Mercy the GODHEAD (FATHER, SON & HOLY GHOST/HOLY SPIRIT) communed and a COVENANT was created that allowed the SON to go to the Cross to DIE in our place, becoming our Substitute taking the punishment that we deserve for sin. (2 Corinthians 5:21).
GOD’S justice and HIS Righteousness, the quality or character of being RIGHT, JUST and HOLY, are other attributes of GOD. HE does not show favoritism by respecting some people more than others (Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 18:30). HE does choose people and nations for HIS Purposes and Eventualities.
GOD is Omnipotent; HIS power is unlimited and complete, although HE always regulate HIS power by acting in accordance with the rest of HIS character (Revelation 19:6; Jeremiah 32:17, 27).
GOD is Omnipresent (Psalm 139:7-13; Jeremiah 23:23) and Omniscient (1 John 3:20), meaning HE is everywhere and knows everything, whether Past, Present, and Future.
GOD’S primary attribute, and the one that permeates all of HIS other attributes, is HIS transcendent HOLINESS. HIS Holiness is what separates HIM from all moral defilement, namely sin.
GOD is as a consuming fire and HIS HOLY WRATH against sin is to be feared (Hebrews 12:29, 10:27, 31).
HIS Holiness, however is tempered by HIS GRACE which offers Goodness, Kindness, Mercy, and Love (SALVATION) to human beings although they do not deserve it.
As Israel was escaping from the Bondage of Slavery GOD sent HIS Pillar of Fire which was HIS “Angel of the LORD” Manifestation. It gave Light and Protection to the Nation of Israel and acted as a deadly barrier to Egypt who was pursing them. GOD is a Provision to HIS people.
