J:3 THE PROPHETS
Act 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
The Purpose of the Prophet
The Purpose of a Prophet is to give Admonishment (Warnings/Reminders), to the people that GOD had sent him to. GOD sent the Prophets because that Individual’s or that Nation’s “Cup of Iniquity has been filled to the Brim”, their Actions (sins) being the Testimony to their Iniquities (sins). The Prophet’s Assignment is makes the people aware of their sins and Admonishes them, Convicting them of their sins or Attempting to Convince them through Preaching and sometimes through Demonstrations and Miracles, which were the Signature or Approval of GOD and the Prophet’s Sign of Office.
An Example of a Prophet – The Prophet Elijah
2Ki 1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
During an Episode of Israel’s Spiritual Adultery (Unfaithfulness to GOD), GOD sent the Prophet Elijah who gave a Demonstration of >> the “Being, SOVEREIGNTY, and Power of the True GOD << in a “Comparative Contest” with the Priests of Baal. He had the Priests of Baal (450) build an Altar to their god and he built one to the GOD of Israel.
Then each “party” was to call on their GOD/god to Accept the Sacrifice by a show of Fire that would Consume the Sacrifice.This Demonstration was for the Purpose of Convincing the people of Israel that the GOD of their Ancestors, Abraham, Issac and Jacob (Israel), was the True GOD and Baal and other Pagan gods were False.
1Ki_18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
1Ki_18:22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. (*)
1Ki 18:23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
1Ki 18:24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
1Ki_18:25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
1Ki 18:26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
1Ki 18:27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
-8 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
1Ki 18:29 And it came to pass, when mid-day was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
1Ki 18:30 And Elijah said to all the people, Come near to me. And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.
1Ki 18:31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
1Ki 18:32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
1Ki 18:33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt-sacrifice, and on the wood.
1Ki 18:34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
1Ki 18:35 And the water ran around the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
1Ki 18:36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
1Ki 18:37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
1Ki 18:38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
1Ki 18:39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
Carnality – Law of the Flesh
Rom_8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
The Demonstration and the Exhibition of GOD as a Provisional GOD who Hears, Sees and Responds, had been Evident enough to enable the Minds of the people of Israel to see the Truth. The Demonstration was of the highest Degree of Evidence; it was Certain Proof Exhibited; it was Indubitable Evidence of the Senses; of Reason; and from Inductions of Reason satisfying the Mind of the Certainty of the Fact of the Truth of >> GOD’S Sovereignty << and of Elijah’s Testimony. It “Cured” their “Double-mindedness” through the Deductions of the Mind from the Facts, Arguments, and Demonstrations. It Furnished Sufficient Evidence of Truth and Falsehood. But no matter how much Proof GOD gave Israel, no matter how much he Cared for her and Forgave her sins, Israel would not Obey HIM and they continued to Violate HIS Law giving in to the Carnality of their Minds and their bodies.
Eze_22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
Rom_7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
True Worship of GOD
The previous paragraph dictated that the Demonstration of GOD’S Power and the inadequacy of the idol Baal was Adequate Proof that arose from the People’s own Perception, by their own “Senses” and this was the Problem. It was an External Demonstration and only Influenced their Carnal Minds and their Carnal Hearts. It was not Efficacious toward Achieving Perfection of the Spiritual Mind or the Spiritual Nature. It only Affected a short Lived Contrition (Sorrow for sin). This was Problematic to the Law of Moses during the Mosaic Dispensation. Its Efficacy was only toward the External Man, it did not spur Man to Obedience to GOD or to Spiritual Perfection. It was Temporal and its Judicious Effects were only Temporary. There was no substantial Change in the individual, or in this case, no change in Israel. When Mankind attempted to Worship GOD they did so inadequately because “their Sin” Prevented True Spiritual Worship. Man without the Spirit of GOD is incapable of the True Worship of GOD which is in Spirit and in Truth.
Joh_4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh_4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Mat 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

In The Spirit of Elijah
Elijah had been a Loyal and Obedient Prophet. He worked hard for GOD and in most cases his Faith had been Adequate for his Missions. But he pretty much worked alone and he finally became “Spiritually Fatigued”. This is typically an occurrence with Ministers and especially Evangelists who undergo a Spiritual burst of the HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT and a Physical Hormonal burst of Adrenaline to Accommodate their Need to Minister to groups of people on Sabbath/Sunday and/or during Church Revivals. Afterwards there is a Natural Physical, Mental, and Emotional Reversal when the Need diminishes. They then Experience a type of “Spiritual Depression” which is called Blue Monday. Typically it is only a Phase that is usually Effectively treated by a Season of Prayer and close Moments of Relationship with the FATHER & CHRIST.
Elijah had Defeated 450 Priests of Baal, and 400 Prophets of the groves and was Instrumental in the slaughtering of the 450 Priest of Baal. He thought he was the last of the Prophets of GOD as noted in the Scripture I King18:22 (1Ki_18:22) and I Kings 19:10 (1Ki 19:10) above, however, GOD had Reserved to HIMSELF 7,000 individuals that Elijah was unaware of at that time. Some time thereafter, GOD Translated Elijah away after placing certain Key people in Key positions as two Kings and another Prophet, Elisha, who was to replace Elijah. Thereafter, Elijah like Enoch was taken away while he was yet still alive. It was said of John the Baptist that he came in the “Spirit of Elijah” and CHRIST declared that Elijah had come, in the person of John the Baptist, when the Disciples inquired why the Scribes stated Elijah must FIRST come before the CHRIST?
Mat_17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
Mat 17:11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
Mat 17:12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
Mat 17:13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
On another occasion it is written that Elijah (Greek – Elias) was present at the Transfiguration of the CHRIST, with Moses on the Mount. Also in attendance was Peter, James and John.
Mar 9:2 And after six days, Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up upon a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them.
Mar 9:3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can whiten them.
Mar 9:4 And there appeared to them Elijah, with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
The Signs of JESUS CHRIST (Works)
Joh_12:40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
The people that lived during the Time of the Ministry of CHRIST, were very much like the people of Israel during the time of Elijah. HE performed many Wondrous Signs but they did not Accept them as HIS Sign from GOD and worse than that, they accused HIM of performing Miracles through Satanic Powers. HE performed the Miracles of Healing of Sundry Diseases, Conditions and Disorders; Demonic Possession; the feeding of the thousands at a time on several occasions; and the Resurrecting of several individuals who had died; but they could not Perceive the Miracles or they would not Believe them.
Joh 9:1 And Jesus passing by, saw a man who was blind from his birth.
Joh 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Joh 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Joh 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Joh 9:13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
Joh 9:15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
Joh 9:17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
Joh 9:18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
Joh 9:19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
Joh 9:20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
Joh 9:21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
The Jewish Religious Leaders did not believe in JESUS and Commanded the people not to claim JESUS as the CHRIST, and threatened Excommunication (to have them thrown out of the Synagogue) if they did.
Joh 9:22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue
The Sin of Unbelief
The same statements apply to the Israelites of CHRIST’S Time as it did during the “Time” of Elijah (Greek – Elias). JESUS CHRIST gave them Demonstrations of HIS Mission as the SON OF GOD; PROPHET; PRIEST; KING; and MESSIAH. The Prophet & Admonishments
Luk_24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
The Prophet usually Forewarned the people of possible Physical Doom, Spiritual Doom and “Future Damnation” because of their sins; he informs the people that GOD is “Angry” because of their Sin and Forewarns them that they are Destined to Suffer a Litany of Punishments which were written in the Curses in the Covenant. GOD was Explicit in HIS Warnings, Depicting them clearly in the Beginning and Admonishing the people through the Law of Moses; the Divine Cosmic Law of GOD (the Ten Commandments); through the Observances of Edicts and Decrees through the Annual Feasts, Festivals, and through the Prophets.
Luk_13:28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
Sometimes the Curses and Punishment included Terrible Destruction, Death by Plagues, Pestilence or War and/or Captivity by another Nation unless they Repented of their sins. These Curses were often implemented because the people did not Repent of their Sin after the Admonition.
The Prophet’s Function
The Prophet Performs the Act of Convincing a Person or a People of Error and Confutation. He Performs the act of Compelling the individual(s) to Acknowledge their Error, or the Truth of what is Alleged by GOD. The Preaching of the Prophet usually conveyed a Message Convincing or Compelling the individual(s) to Admit the Truth of a Charge; Convincing the people of their Sin or Sinfulness; and/or to Evoke the State of being Convinced or Convicted by Conscience to bring about the State of being “Sensible of Guilt” and the Required Contrition and Change. This was one of the things the Law of Moses could not do. It could not Affect the Heart, Mind, Nature or Actions Conducive to Righteousness.
Conviction of Sin
The Conviction of a sinner may be Permanent or Temporary, such as with King Saul who made many attempts to Kill David. His Ineptness to follow the Commands of GOD cost him his crown and his throne. King Saul had disobeyed a Direct Command of GOD and as a consequence GOD Dethroned him and gave the Scepter to the youth David.
David was innocent of conspiring against King Saul and had no desire to Dethrone him but Saul was Paranoid. He knew Samuel had Anointed David as King and he considered him a threat to his Crown and his Throne. Several times David demonstrated his Loyalty to Saul. Saul would repent temporarily and then he would change his mind and would resume with new vigor, to pursue David again to kill him. The persecution of David continued from the time he was Anointed and the entire time Saul was on the Throne.
Nineveh: Conviction and Forgiveness
On the other hand Conviction could be Immediate, Contrition Efficacious and lasting such as when Jonah the Prophet was sent to Nineveh. When Jonah finally arrived in Nineveh, after a few Detours, he delivered the “Message of Doom & Destruction” to Nineveh which GOD had Commissioned him to deliver. GOD had Declared their Cup of Iniquity was full and the entire Nation was scheduled for Destruction. The whole country of Nineveh repented of their sin. The King, the People and even their animals were in Ashes and Sackcloth. The people of Nineveh Repented of their Sin through “True Contrition” and GOD forgave them and spared them from HIS Wrath of Destruction.
Israel – The Cup of Iniquity is Full
CHRIST spoke of the Iniquity of Israel in several of HIS Discourses made to Israel. HE addressed the Pharisees, Sadducess, the Jewish Leaders and all of Israel. sCHRIST told Israel that Nineveh would Judge them because they had Repented when Jonah went to Nineveh, and one who was greater than Jonah (HIMSELF) was there among them. But Israel was stiff-necked, their hearts were hardened, and they would not Repent of their Sins and, in HIS Offices of Prophet, SON of GOD and Messiah, CHRIST was denied and Crucified.
Mat_12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Luk_13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
In the Scripture above (Luke 13:24) JESUS CHRIST was speaking as the >> Eternal CHRIST C 4 << The WORD who was with GOD before the Foundation of the World and as the Manifestation of the >> GODHEAD << .
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made
Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thy ownself, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Many of the Prophets had warned Israel that GOD was going to disown them if they did not repent of their sin. Israel did not Repent and Israel Evoked the Final Curse upon herself as a Nation.
