I:3 The Mosaic Dispensation – A Comparative View
A comparative view of the Mosaic (Dispensation) Covenant (the Old Testament) – the Law of Moses contrasted with the Spiritual/Gospel Dispensation Covenant. (New Testament) with Scriptural Exegesis throughout the Articles.
NOTE: The Law of Moses was the Covenant of Ordinances between GOD and Israel although GOD invited anyone to Covenant with HIM and Love HIM as their GOD.
Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Isa 56:8 The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
The Law of Moses is not to be confused with GOD’S Divine Cosmic Law – The 10 Commandments which Eternally applies to Everyone.
The Old Bottle vs The New Bottle | Believers vs Unbeliever
Mat 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Bottles in the eastern countries are made of goat skins. When they have been used (old) and new wine is put into them, the Fermentation Process (build up of Natural gases) will burst the bottles and destroy them. It is Necessary to use new bottles for the Purpose of storing the new wine.
The Pharisees and other Religious Leaders were like “old bottles”. They held to their Belief system and Rejected the Need for the change Prescribed by CHRIST while they Rejected GOD and CHRIST. The Love of GOD could not be received or Retained by them. They were not able to Receive Spiritual Renewal or Regeneration. The Religious Leaders were like the “old bottles”, not able to receive New Wine.
On the other hand, the New Bottles Represent the “Remnant of Israel”. These individuals were waiting for the >> “Consolation of Israel” << They were waiting for the Messiah. According to Jewish Tradition the Messiah was to appear during the Passover Festival and the Prophecy of the >> Prophet Daniel << was due for Fulfillment.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The Doctrine of CHRIST (New Testament Gospel of the Kingdom of GOD/Heaven) and the Traditions of Men (the Pharisees), could never have been in Accord. The Pharisees and other Religious Leaders Corrupted the Law of Moses (Old Covenant). It was made Carnal with no Spirituality. They had replaced their Traditions for the Doctrine and Commandments of GOD. The Religious Leaders were Sanctimonious, Self Righteous and Belittling to the Common People. CHRIST openly taught the people to Beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees, Scribes, Sadducees, and False Leaders and False Prophets calling them Hypocrites.
Mar 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Mat 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
The Old Covenant vs The New Covenant
The two Doctrines taught were Diametrically opposed to one another, as far as the east is from the west. CHRIST had to, by necessity, draw a clear line of Demarcation between HIMSELF and the Religious Leaders of HIS Time and between HIS Doctrine and theirs. Any attempt to Pacify them or any attempt to combine the two Systems would have been Destructive and of no avail. The Old Covenant was only the Figure or Emblem which pointed to and made way for the New Covenant which was its Completion and its End. The Old Covenant and the New Covenant never could have been incorporated.
Sin – The Destruction of Joy and Peace
Sin is so Vile it separates Man from GOD who is Holy. >> Adam & Eve << committed the first sin by Human Beings. Unbelief and Disobedience.

UNBELIEF causes one to suspect the Veracity of GOD’S WORD; to QUESTION HIS FAITHFULNESS, SINCERITY and POWER to keep HIS PROMISES and HIS PENALTIES. UNBELIEF causes a person to question GOD’S TRUTHS, HIS AUTHENTICITY and LEGITIMACY as our GOD; CREATOR; BENEFACTOR, and FATHER. UNBELIEF Rejects GOD’S REALITY, replacing it with our own (the >> Carnal Deception <<) and is the final step before the overt act of DISOBEDIENCE.
UNBELIEF like doubt waits for an opportunity to carry out the SINS of REBELLION, DEFIANCE, and DISOBEDIENCE. It Fosters all forms of INIQUITY, WICKEDNESS or EVIL. It also operates as a false sense of reality for UNBELIEVERS allowing them to Satiate their Indulgence for SIN.
After Adam & Eve had committed sin, they Experienced Defilement, Guilt and Shame because of the >> Sin of Unbelief and Disobedience << which included all of the Graduated steps of sin stated above. Their sin was a Transgression of GOD’S Divine Cosmic Law and Holy Justice required their Life in Recompense. Sin caused their Descent from the Spiritual Realm (their Spiritual Relationship with the Kingdom of GOD/Heaven) and resulted in a Fallen Carnal State. They lost their Spirituality. The sin(s) they had Committed and the Consequences became Apprehensible and became Overwhelming to them. So Tumultuous were their Negative Furtive Emotions and their Imagination, they were not able to face GOD. Being in HIS Holy Presence was unthinkable to them, so when they heard HIS voice in the Garden, they hid themselves from HIM in Fear.
Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
Atonement
In their >> “Nakedness”<< (absence of the Spirit of GOD) they were Assaulted (no Spiritual Defense from the Accusations and Darts from Satan, the devil) with a Myriad of Negative Emotions that Contaminated their >> Joy <<.
Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Sin Agitated the Minds of Adam & Eve (>> the Carnal Deception – Satan’s Condemnation and his Preying on their Minds through Guilt and Fear<<) which caused False Appearances and Contrary Perception which occasioned Contradictory Experiences (Delusion and Illusion) which resulted in Mental and Emotional Confusion without Rest and their Peace Deteriorated continuously. Memories of the Quality of their Lives prior to their sin added to their Remorse, Sorrow, Despair and Misery. Vacillating between Despondency and Fear became their Dominant State and they tried to cover and hide themselves (their Nakedness) without much Success. However, in HIS Infinite Mercy, GOD Ordained that Atonement for Sin, for a Soul, could be Effected by Holy Innocent Blood for the Remission of Sin, a Figure or Emblem pointing to the Ultimate Holy Sacrifice of our Lord and Master JESUS CHRIST and the “Covering” of the >> HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT << in the Spiritual Dispensation.
Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Life is in the Blood and without the Shedding of Blood (Sacrifice) there can be no Remission of Sin. During the Mosaic Dispensation, the Animal had to be Consecrated Holy (free from sin and sinful Affections/no Blemishes or Defects) by GOD through HIS Ordained Mediator (High Priest). This Covering by Holy Innocent Blood allowed Man to Exist before GOD (although no longer in perfect Harmony), without the Debilitating Fear of Extinction due to sin and without Man procuring Immediate Death to himself.
Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Sacrifices and Offerings
The following Scriptures convey various types of Sacrifices and their corresponding use in the Old Testament and depicts the Contrast in the New Testament.
The Old Testament (Covenant)
Lev 9:2 And he said unto Aaron, Take thee a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before the LORD.
Lev 9:3 And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering;
Lev 9:4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the LORD; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for to day the LORD will appear unto you.
Lev 9:5 And they brought that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation: and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD.
Lev 9:6 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you.
Lev 9:7 And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded.
The New Testament Covenant)
1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
The form of Atonement during the Mosaic Dispensation was on a temporary basis and was only a Figure or a Type which pointed to CHRIST and the Superior Spiritual Gospel Dispensation. In addition, there was still the Curse of Sin and the Sentence of the “Second Death” at Judgment that had to be Reconciled.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
The Blood of animals of the Mosaic Dispensation was not sufficient to completely Eradicate Sin, or to Justify Mankind. It could not acquit him of sin. Mankind was still guilty and had to perform the Sacrifice of Atonement every year.
Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Rom 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
This could only be Resolved by the Eventuating or Abrogating of the Law of Moses and the Cessation of the Animal Sacrifices which CHRIST came to Abolish. The most important Event Actualized was the Fulfillment of the Prophecy of the Messiah. GOD sent HIS BELOVED SON, JESUS CHRIST, into the World to save it.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
CHRIST also came to Initiate the Spiritual Gospel Dispensation, the New Testament (the New Covenant) for the Remission of Sin and to Accomplish the Promises of GOD including the Restitution of all things, the Resurrection, Regeneration and Ascension of the Saints. What the Law of Moses could not do, CHRIST Accomplished in >> HIS Person << and in >> HIS Works. <<
Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
The Fulfilling of the Prophecy meant the Incarnation of JESUS CHRIST; HIS Birth; Ministry (the Work HIS Heavenly FATHER sent HIM to do); HIS Death (the Holy Sacrifice of CHRIST); HIS Resurrection, and Ascension to HIS Throne in Heaven on HIS FATHER’S Right Hand (Royal, Spiritual Authority) which was Decreed from the Foundation of the World.
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
CHRIST coming into the World and Accomplishing HIS Ordained Works, Initiated the Spiritual Gospel Dispensation, the Good News of the Kingdom of GOD/Heaven) and the beginning of the Spiritual Evolutionary Developmental Stage of Mankind. 1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
In the New Covenant it is the Ministry, Suffering, Sacrifice and the Blood of CHRIST that offers the Salvation of Mankind through Faith in the Blood of JESUS CHRIST as the Savior, Mediator, High Priest, Propitiation, and Advocate for Believers.
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
The Restitution & The Regeneration
Adam and Eve, because of their sin, had Lost everything including their Spiritual Union with GOD, the worse Loss of all. In addition they knew they were no longer Immortal, but Mortal, able to die. Man was Created and Destined to be Immortal, to Live Forever, and will be Immortal again when CHRIST has completed the Restitution of all things in the Regeneration and the Refreshing. These are Future Events that have been Prophesied and spoken of by the Prophets in the Old and New Testaments. >> See Immortality <<
Act 3:18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
Act 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Act 3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Mat 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Torment in Guilty Conscience
Sin had a terrible Impact on the Lives of Adam & Eve through the Realization of the Act of sin and their Carnal Emotions of Guilt and Remorse through their Acquired Guilty Consciences which Acknowledged all of the Evil they had brought on themselves and their Progenitors, their Descendants, the Human Race. The Anguish and Torment was unbearable but GOD, in HIS Infinite Mercy and Grace, gave them Hope in the Form of the Prophecy of Redemption, Salvation and Grace in Genesis 3:15 regarding the “Promised “Seed” of the Woman – JESUS CHRIST”.
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
The Sacrifice for the Remission of sin afforded Mankind a Mode of Expiation of sin which Allowed them to Approach GOD through a Mediator. In the Old Testament the Mediator was Moses, a Figure or Emblem which pointed to CHRIST. Moses Prophesied to Israel that a Prophet/Messiah would be forthcoming to Israel. The Messiah was/is JESUS CHRIST.
Act 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
During the Mosaic Dispensation, and thereafter, until CHRIST, the High Priest was a Representation of CHRIST in HIS Office as the High Priest for Believers. However the Priests of the Old Covenant were of the lineage of Aaron of the Tribe of Levi and were called Levites.
But CHRIST was from the Order of Melchisadec to Effect a Superior Office as High Priest and King. HIS Office will be Forever; no one will succeed HIM because HIS Office is Perpetual.
Melchisedec was a King and a Priest from the Old Testament. He was a contemporary of Abraham. He met Abraham after the skirmish when Lot and his family were taken as captives. Abraham and his “people” rescued Lot and his Family who afterwards returned to Sodom.
Heb 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
GOD in HIS Infinite Mercy allowed Mankind a Respite during the “Grand Design”, Orchestrated to Construct the Predetermined Sacrificial System for Forgiveness, Atonement, Redemption, and Grace for Salvation that had been Ordained at the Foundation of the World. However, the Mosaic Dispensation could only Afford Temporary Reconcilement for it was only a Shadow of Better Events to come in JESUS CHRIST.
CHRIST, unlike the High Priest in the Mosaic Dispensation, did not have to enter into the Holy of Holies, with the Blood of animals behind the Veil, to Administer the Rites and Sacraments before GOD as in the Book of Leviticus. HE was Holy and HE entered into the Holiest of Holies, on the Merit of HIS own Body and HIS own Blood. Now HE Officiates in Heaven, to Officiate before GOD for us.
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
The Book of Hebrews is written to a Jewish audience and encapsulates in summary the Law of Moses and correlates the contrasts between the Book of Leviticus and “his present time”. He admonishes the Law of Moses was a Figure pointing to the Fulfillment of the Law of Moses by CHRIST JESUS. The Scriptures below is a snapshot of the Book of Hebrews.
Heb 9:6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
Heb 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Heb 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
Heb 9:9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
